Here’s our latest flash game! It’s a new version of the Volvo Truck game we made last year. I personally think that the new version (below) is much more fun to play.
Use the arrow keys to control the truck and try to get all boxes over the goal line. My top score is 185 000 something. What’s yours? Click below to play.
Also, there is a secret box somewhere on the course! Can you find it?
An update to our pepsi game was released the other day with some new stuff in it, including a new character with her own song. Also, the game can now be easily added to a blog or homepage, which is illustrated below.
Have fun!
During the weekend that was a mini Ludum Dare competition was held. The theme was monochrome and the subtheme I choose was growth. All in all, each entrant had 48 hours to make her game. I didn’t use very many of those hours but I still managed to get something playable out of it.
The graphics uses an old demo effect called bloobs, which I’ve enabled by wrapping AS3’s Bitmap classes with some special drawing routines. It eats up quite a lot of memory, but used in a small resolution that’s no biggie.
It’s a little game about protecting your cell against attacking bad cells, all seen through a microscope. Big cells will try to eat you (you lose), smaller cells will harm you (you shrink). Click to shoot in the direction of the mouse pointer. Sometimes when you hit dark cells, a small bright cell will be created and move towards you. Protect t and it will attach itself to you and you will grow. The bigger you are, the longer you will stay alive. Good luck!
Post your highscores! Mine is 505. ![]()
Our 3D Flash game Pepsi Music Challenge has caused quite a stir online, both techwise and businesswise. Of course we are very happy about this and I wanted to share some of the links. One also holds a shot of a part of our office for those who are curious.

(Also, I’m trying to go through all my older posts and turn categories into tags. Its lots of work, wish me luck!
)
I’m very happy to announce that our latest game at Muskedunder Interactive was just released. It’s a music game in the same vein as Guitar Hero or DDR. Anyway, what’s really cool about this game is that its in full 3D and still in Flash! Also, I really like the music.
We’re really proud of this production and I think it sets a great example for what actually can be done with 3D and Flash.
Instructions (for those of you who don’t know swedish):
First select a character. Lätt = Easy, Medl = Medium, Svår = Hard
Press FGHJ in rythm with the music. Get points. Win.
Try it out: http://www.pepsi.se
Oh, and for optimum performance, get Flash Player 10:

I just caught a TV show about the work of Tom Otterness. Or should I say Tom Awesomeness? He’s a sculturer that makes amazing bronze sculptures in all sizes. I especially likes his huge sculptures where people even can hang out. One of the “experts” of the show mentioned how Tom’s art is really accessible which makes it enjoyable by normal people and not only the elite art clique. Tom says this himself as well and means that by targeting the public audience, he can avoid all the “drama” in the art community. This is something that I’d really like to see in games. Maybe we’re already there btw, with Miis, EA’s play for all and Sims.
In short, I just really like his stuff.
If you’re unable to see his sculptures live ( like me ), visit his site for amazing images: http://www.tomotterness.net/
Argh! I just spent the better part of the afternoon trying to make my code work and I blame you, AS3 variable scope, for not making me find it in minutes.
In any language with selfrespect variables can not be used out of scope. However, in AS3 this is possible. Very annoying as it makes programming mistakes that would have been found at compile time almost impossible to spot.
Look at this example:
var importantInstance : Object = null;
for each( var instance : Object in someArray ) {
if ( instance.important == true ) {
importantInstance = instance;
}
}
return instance;
Now if things were working as they should, instance should not exist outside the for-loop and a compile error would alert me that I was returning the wrong thing (I would like to return importantInstance). But AS3 does not spot this and it takes hours to track these suckers down by hand. Infact, even this is ok in AS3:
trace( someString );
var someString : String = "Why, oh why?";
Bah! I hope this will be fixed in flash 10. ![]()
Here’s a really nice video with a run down of the new features in Flash CS4. I especially like the IK bones at around 15 minutes into the video. I can see tonnes of cool things being made with this.
I guess every single blog is writing about this so I might as well jump on the band wagon. Today, Google’s own webbrowser Chrome was released. I’ve tried it for the entire day and I must say I really like it. It is, like most google stuff, very slick and clean. Took a while to find where the usual functions are hidden but once learned I really like the whole thing. In order to get some proper testing done I linked Flex to use Chrome for all it’s debugging purposes and found that it worked better than the usual suspects IE and FF. Chrome starts up really fast so there’s little to no delay waiting for some heavy browser to start. And time is of course as always of importance!
